Critical Java Updates Released and Available for Download

Posted by Unknown on Wednesday, April 16, 2014

Oracle has just released new updates that patch 37 security holes in their Java Runtime Environment software. So if you are one of the individuals who needs Java on your system for Minecraft or other specific apps, then you need to download the latest update to make sure your system is as secure as possible.

It is highly recommended that you do not wait to install the new updates as the vulnerabilities being patched are quite severe.

From the Krebs on Security blog post: Oracle has pushed a critical patch update for its Java SE platform that fixes at least 37 security vulnerabilities in the widely-installed program. Several of these flaws are so severe that they are likely to be exploited by malware or attackers in the days or weeks ahead. So — if you have Java installed — it is time to update (or to ditch the program once and for all).

Affected Java SE Versions:

  • JRE 8

  • JRE 7u51

  • JRE 6u71

  • JRE 5.0u61

Note: If you do not need Java on your system, we recommend uninstalling it entirely or disabling the browser plugin.
